Rabita Baku defeats Chang Bangkok by 3-1: World Club Volleyball Championship
Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan was able to defeat the Thailand club Chang Bangkok by 3-1 on Tuesday, October 11. The match was part of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship that is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar. The two teams found themselves
competing in a Pool B match of the championship at the end of which Rabita Baku was able to hand out a defeat to their opponents.
The first set of the match saw the Rabita Baku club come out strong and bag a comfortable win. However, the second set of the game was secured by the Thai club after a good fight but the Rabita Baku prevailed in earning the third and the fourth sets in dominant
fashion and sealed the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-17.
The coach of the winning team, Zoran Gajic, made the following comments about the match at the press conference that was conducted afterwards: “Of course I'm very happy with this victory. It was a good test because for several players this was their first
match. They didn't play for five months. Unfortunately we weren't able to prepare very well for this competition and two of our American players couldn't join us. To be able to win this competition I think we have to play more defensive and try to make even
less mistakes.”
On the other hand, the coach of Chang Bangkok, K. Radchatagriengkai, expressed himself in the following manner: “Even though we didn't win, I'm very happy with my players performance. I hope they have learned a lot from this experience and that they will
improve their play so we can come back next year.”
The opening set of the game saw the Rabita Baku take the lead at 8-4, an advantage they were able to extend to 14-9. Chang Bangkok was able to close in the gap at 18-14 but they could not stop Rabita Baku from bagging the first set of the game at 25-19.
The second set reached a tie at 5-5 but found the Thai club in the lead at 23-20, an advantage they did not let go off till 25-21. Unfortunately for the Thai club, the Rabita Baku was able to come out strong in the third and the fourth sets and secure themselves
a win at 25-15 and 25-17 respectively.
The player that was able to top all scorers was Rabita Baku’s Natalya Mammadova as she scored a total of 20 points for her team. On the other hand, the most active player on the Thai club was Wilavan Apinyapong who tallied 16 points for her club in the entire
match.
