Rabita Baku earns gold at FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship
The gold medal match of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship took place on the 14th October, Friday between Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan and Vakifbank Ttelekom Istanbul of Turkey. The title match was held in Doha, Qatar, where the
entire tournament was staged.
Interestingly, the final competition was not the thrilling affair that it was expected to be as Rabita Baku was able to get their hands on the gold medal after making a clean sweep over their rivals. Not only was Rabita Baku able to win the match in three
back to back sets, they won each frame in a smothering fashion. By the time that Rabita Baku was done, the final set scores stood at the following figures: 25-15, 25-18 and 25-9.
The coach of the winning club, Zoran Cajic, expressed his jubilation in the following manner at the press conference after the match had reached its close:  “My team played very good, exactly the way I wanted them to play. This victory is not only good for
us, but for the whole country. Our President will be very happy.”
On the other hand, the Tukrish coach, Giovanni Guidetti, shared his feelings in the following manner: “First of all I would like to congratulate Rabita Baku. I cannot be angry with my players. We were only able to train together once before the start of
this competition. We weren't prepared. We weren't ready yet. The first matches we played against some weaker teams, which were very easy for us. Today we played against a very organised team, which was just too difficult for us.”
The start of the opening set saw the Rabita Baku club take the lead at 8-2. Vakifbank Ttelekom was able to close in the gap at 9-7 but Rabita Baku was able to extend their advantage and eventually bag the first frame at 25-15.
Vakifbank Ttelekom had the lead at 3-0 in the second set but Rabita Baku did not let them get too far and took the lead for themselves at 18-15. Before long, Rabita Baku had secured the second frame as well at 25-18. The third set of the frame did not see
Vakifbank Ttelekom put in any significant effort and the win came easy for Rabita Baku at 25-9.
The player that was able to register the most points for her club was Rabita Baku’s Natasa Osmokrovic with a total of 16 points in the entire match. Osmokrovic was helped by her team-mate Natalya Mammadova who made her presence felt by putting up 12 points
of her own. On the other hand, the most active players on the Vakifbank Ttelekom side were Bahar Toksoy and Malgorzata Glinka, each of whom tallied 10 points in the entire match.
