Rabita Baku hires new head coach – Volleyball update
European Women’s Championship high-fliers, Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan, have recently hired a new head coach for next season. Serbian Zoran Gajic has taken up the responsibility to lead the team through the upcoming national and international events.
Gajic has been attached with the sport of volleyball for several years and comes with a wealth of experience both at the international and domestic level. He worked for the men’s national teams of Russia and Serbia in the past. He proved his skills and abilities
while mentoring the men’s teams and has now decided to do the same with the women’s team of Azerbaijan. In fact, Gajic was extremely interested in coming to women’s volleyball for quite a few years.
He was attached with one of the top women’s clubs of Turkey, the Eczacibasi Istanbul for a short period in 2004. Later on, he opted for Russian team Lokomotiv Belgorod. In the meanwhile, he also had invitations from Swiss club Volero Zurich. He did not join
the Swiss club but offered his services to another Russian club Iskra Odintsovo in 2007. After being involved in different women’s clubs, Gajic finally made a choice to work with Rabita Baku this year.
He was offered the opportunity, along with attractive package, by the management of the Azerbaijani club. He had frequent meetings with the officials of Baku over the past few months. After weighing the pros and cons and analysing the working conditions
in Azerbaijan, he came up with the decision of choosing Rabita Baku as his new team.
Jalil Jafarov, the President of Rabita Baku, expressed his delight about the association of Gajic with his team. He is convinced that Rabita Baku will benefit many fold with the addition of the experienced coach. Jafarov is well aware of the extra-ordinary
qualities and Gajic’s knowledge of the game.
Zoran Gajic also stated his views and said, “This time I just could not refuse and the officials from Baku were really persistent in asking me to work with their team. We have been having quite many meetings, analyzing the composition of the coaching staff
as well as the working conditions for the team, so finally I accepted their offer, moved to Azerbaijan and will continue my coaching career in Baku”.
The 2011 FIVB Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar, next October is the latest challenge for Rabita Baku. It will also be a test of the new coach’s skills as well. The Azerbaijani team has firm attitude to perform better at the club world championship
and then go for CEV Volleyball Champions League, next year.
