Rabita Baku sweeps Azerrail in Azerbaijani Superleague match
The women’s volleyball team of Rabita Baku recently played a match with the counterparts of Azerrail. The match between the two sides was part of the sixth round of the Azerbaijani Superleague.
The tournament is currently being staged in Baku, a city of Azerbaijan. The match between the two sides was much anticipated as they both are considered the archrivals of each other.
It did not take much long for the home team to assert themselves over their rivals as Rabita was able to secure itself a win by bagging the match in a sweep. Not only did the BAKU squad grab the win in three back-to-back sets, they won each set of the game
by a comfortable margin.
By the time that the home team was celebrating its win, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-14, 25-21 and 25-20.
The performance of the Azerrail team was seen to dwindle as they were playing against the raised odds of being on the home turf of their rivals. Apart from that, Azerrail was also missing two of their important players. These were Polina Rahimova as well
as the libero Valeriya Korotenko.
The opposite of Rabita BAKU, Sanja Starovic, expressed herself in the following words after her team had achieved a win, “It was a good and easy match for us but I think and hope that both teams will display their best Volleyball when it comes to the final
four of the Champions League.”
The match between the two sides acted as a testing ground for both the teams as Rabita will clash with the Azerrail squad in the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League matches whose quarter-finals are scheduled to be held in the later part of March this year.
The first set of the match saw the Rabita squad take the lead early on and stick with the advantage until the very end while the Azerrail team kept trailing behind all through.
The second set saw some sparks of life from Azerrail but the effort was not enough to secure a win. The third set of the game saw Rabita take the lead during the middle of the frame and put on a spurt of speed that got them the win.
