Question:

Race Rails VS Frame Sliders?

I would like to know the general opinion from you guys on which offers the better protection without threathening the frame of the bike...Frame Sliders protect the frame, depending on where and how they are mounted and also what they are made of, they generally do a good job in low speed low-sides...but Ive heard horror stories of frame sliders snapping or causing more bad than good....Race Rails, although rather gawdy, seem to be a good bet, but I know nothing about them other than they are primarily made for stunters and would protect the fairing more in a low speed lowside or tipover, but Ive also heard they are a sure fire way to bend your frame in a high speed spill....what are your opinions, I want max protection ( first priority frame and engine...SECOND fairings/plastics )....thanks in advance for your insight peoples

  1. Speaking from experience, if you want maximum protection go with a stunt cage.  I think when you say race rails you mean a stunt cage. I have a 2001 R6 with Freestyle Ingenuity frame sliders.  They stick out further than most other ones I've seen.  They stood up to a lot of abuse, but the last time I wrecked I went over backwards at about 80.  This was the second time this happened, the first time nothing was broken, the bike just slid down the road on the rear tire and the frame slider.  The second time the same thing happened, but the frame slider bolt bent and my stator cover was cracked on the road.  No plastic was broken because it was already broken so it was not on the bike.  If you want my opinion, if you plan on stunting (wheelies, stoppies, burnouts) go with a stunt cage from Racing 905 or Freestyle Ingenuity.  If you want something that's not to bulky get the frame sliders but they are only going to protect in minor incidents, unless you buy a long pair like the ones I have.  I am ordering a Racing 905 cage next week.  If you want proof of how good a cage works watch any stunt video on youtube.  For max frame and engine protection get a cage.  If you buy a cage you might as well get a 12 O'clock bar while your at it.  I hope this helps.

  2. You've got the gist of it in your question, what i would recommend is advanced motorcycle training,
