Race-horse Delegator wins Duke of York Blue Square Stakes at York race-course – Horse Racing Update
The Duke of York Blue Square Stakes took place on Wednesday, May 11 at the York race-course and was claimed by the champion race-horse Delegator.
The Group 2 race was run over a distance of six furlongs and was contended by race-horses of age three and above.
This was the first race that Delegator contended over this distance and still managed to impress his fans and connections by his performance as he was seen to hold off the rest of the field in a very classy manner.
Delegator was ridden by the talented jockey Frankie Dettori in this race. He was sent off to contend this race at odds of 5-1. As the race started, Delegator was aggressive and took the lead and was able to over-take the Group 1 champion horse Regal Parade.
Second spot was bagged by Regal Parade. He was backed at odds of 13-2 for the York meeting. The third place in this event was occupied by the 40-1 favourite, an outsider race-horse Tiddliwinks.
Delegator has earned himself a good name in the mile races as he was also able to defeat the champion Sea The Stars in the last year’s edition of 2000 Guineas event by a distance of a length and a half. It was expected by sports analysts that he will be
competitive in the sprint event and the race-horse came through in stunning fashion.
The race-horse will now be heading for the Golden Jubilee Stakes that will be taking place at Royal Ascot next month. After his impressive victory at York, the sponsors Ladbrokes has cut down his odds to half price, as he is now being quoted as an 8-1 favourite.
His trainer, Saeed Bin Suroor was pleased with the performance of his race-horse as he was able to live up to his expectations. Talking to the correspondents in a post race interview, he was reported as saying, “He has always shown plenty of speed in the
mornings. He was not 100 percent fit today, probably 85 percent, and he’ll improve for this.”
About the upcoming starts that Delegator will be aiming for, the champion trainer said, “His next race will be Golden Jubilee and then the July Cup.”
It will be interesting to see how Delegator competes with other championship horses in the Jubilee event during the summer.
