Race to London 2011 Update – Tennis Special
With the year reaching to its end, one last fight is left for the 2011 tennis season, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Involving the top eight players in the men’s tennis world rankings, this time it is going to be a blood bath
as five players have been confirmed their position while the three left will soon be filled.
A total financial commitment of US$4,450,000 will surely be a mouth watering treat for anyone who wins. However, with the top 5 already filling up the slots, most of the sports gurus are unsure of who would win the jackpot. Novak
Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and David Ferrer are already sitting comfortable in the top 5 seats of the Barclays draw.
However, the last three might change with the upcoming tennis calendar. Tomas Berdych, currently at 2, 940 point, is least expected to be bothered. Next in line is Mardy Fish with 2,875 points followed by the Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga with 2,790 points.
On the ninth place in the Battle for London is Nicolas Almagro with 2, 370 points. However, the Spaniard is competing in Valencia Open 500.  Statistically, if the Spaniard bags the event, he might book a seat in London. However,
this is when the Frenchman, who is also competing in Valencia Open, goes down and out early in the tour.
With the places almost complete with all of the top notches, one gets jumbled up to decide who to bet on. Starting from the top, the mighty Serbian, Djokovic, with year win run is has the most predictions to win at London. Second
to that comes the struggling Spaniard who might be the king of clay, yet foresees destroyers of hard court alongside.
With three back-to-back Asian titles, Murray is the second most expected a win. The reason Brit is being expected a win is because of his home court and looking at his stats, ousting the top two in back-to-back events, has made
him stand under the spot of the expected winners.
The top three might sit in the spots of the pundits, however, the defending champion is still the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, who has won the ATP World Tour Final an amazing 5 times, equalling that of Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras.
Last year, Federer dismantled the king of clay, Nadal, beating him 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to grab the title for the fifth time and this time, the defending veteran champion is practicing hard as he pulled out of most of the year end events
just to get a one last win and might as well finish off his career in style.
Moving on with the list, David Ferrer hits the fifth spot. Finalist at the ATP World Tour Finals in 2007 in Shanghai against the Swiss Maestro, Ferrer is agile, fit and has performed considerably well this year and has been consistent,
yet he is least expect to win it. Spaniard might get to the final; however, winning it for the Spaniard is not expected.
The last three spots, filled up by Berdych, Fish and Tsonga might as well go unnoticed as all the focus and analysis is on the top 4. This might be the battle of eight but in reality the fight is between the top 4 qualifiers. Many
predict Djokovic a win due to his superlative form this season; however, Federer might just defend his championship this year as well.
