Rachael Kidder gets into AVCA All-America first team
Rachael Kidder, the star player of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has been recently added to the AVCA All-America first team.
This honour was bestowed on her after Kidder helped her team win the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship on 17th December, Saturday.
The final match of the championship took place between UCLA and the Illinois State University. After a four set long intense struggle between the two sides, UCLA was able to secure themselves the title, helped by their star player Kidder.
After her team had sealed the deal on the tournament, Kidder was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament because of her memorable performance all through the championship.
Apart from Kidder, two other UCLA players were named to the all-tournament team. These were Zoe Nightingale and Lauren Van Orden. These are not the only members of the winning team who have been able to secure themselves such honours. Michael Sealy, who
is the coach of the UCLA has also been given the title of the national Coach of the Year.
The recent win that the UCLA has been able to achieve was obtained after twenty long years of hard struggle. The UCLA squad was able to do this by putting to a halt what was to be the greatest ever championship run by any team in the history of NCAA, after
which UCLA was able to defeat the number 19th ranked Illinois team.
Kidder made the following comments after her team had won the match, “It feels great to finally bring the program back to what it used to be. Hopefully, it'll keep going that way in the future.”
Kidder was able to secure a total of 20 kills for her team in the final match of the tournament. By the time that the UCLA was celebrating its win over their opponents, the score board showed the following final set scores: 25-23, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-16.
UCLA was able to prove its merit in front of a large crowd of 13,747 spectators.
In praise of the star player Kidder, Sealy made the following comments, “Rarely were they able to control her. She was fantastic.”
