Rachel Connor set to improve game after drunk driving controversy
Rachel Connor is emerging as a significant player in women’s golf. However, she is currently in the process of returning to a position prior to her drunk driving case that put her in the spotlight in March this year.
Hailing from Bradenton, Connor has been a prominent figure in the local golf circuit as well as LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Symetra Tour. However, she drew some sharp criticism when she was caught driving under influence with her friend.
Keen to move ahead, Connor revealed her plans after the drunk driving controversy subsided, saying that she would try to bounce back in the upcoming LPGA Symetra Tour, Sara Bay Classic.
The incident caused a huge setback to Connor, as she could not stay focused on her game. She said in her interview that she had to attend pre-trial hearing.
She added that she has managed to settle the row, and now she is paying attention to golf. The 21-year-old star has been training hard on the practice range, and has been able to fix her putting lapses.
Although her game has been overshadowed by off-course events, she was a star performer at the Suncoast Ladies Series held recently. She played amazingly well — something golf fans did not expect from the controversy-hit star.
Expressing her thought about the Sara Bay Classic, Connor said that she has always liked the event, as she enjoys playing among big names.
She further said that Sara Bay Country Club is the best course in her opinion, as it features plenty of challenging holes and perfect fairways.
"I love Sara Bay. It's one of my favorite courses in Florida," Connor said. "The greens are amazing".
LPGA Tour’s Chief Communications Officer, Kraig Kann, said that Connor is on the mend, as she has managed to find her form again.
Speaking of Sara Bay Classic, Kaan said that the Bradenton native can capitalize on the field at this year’s tournament.
"She is out there like everybody else on that tour, trying to make a name for herself and find her way," said Kann. "Along the road, just like in golf, in life there's a few bumps. And she's trying to figure those things out. And make her, not only a better
player, but a better person".
