Rachel Go and Hayden Stoeckel impress in Adelaide: Final day – Australian Short Course Championships
Rachel Go and Hayden Stoeckel put up inspiring swims to win gold medals in their respective events on the final day of the 2011 Australian Short Course Nationals, in Adelaide, Australia, on Sunday, July 3.
Rachel Go secured gold medal in the Women’s 50m back-stroke meet, whereas, Hayden Stoeckel captured the Men’s 100m back-stroke title.
Go snared the Women’s 50m back-stroke crown with a winning time of 26.82 seconds, while Marieke Guehrer wound up second in 27.15 seconds. The third place went to Grace Loh in 27.32 seconds. Tayliah Zimmer was placed fourth in 27.45 seconds and Charlot Clarke
finished fifth in a time of 27.49 seconds.
Stoeckel snagged the Men’s 100m back-stroke crown with a sterling time of 51.95 seconds. Daniel Arnamnart finished second in 52.40 seconds, while Bob Jovanovich earned third place honours after he touched the finishing wall in 52.75 seconds. DA Blackborrow
wound up fourth in 53.13 seconds, while Ben Edmonds earned fifth spot in 53.54 seconds.
Matthew Terry captured the Men’s 1500m freestyle crown with a victorious time of 15 minutes and 06.20 seconds. Poort Jarrod wound up second in 15 minutes and 13.61 seconds, while Shane Asbury earned bronze in 15 minutes and 16.23 seconds. Jos Richardson
was placed fourth in 15 minutes and 18.12 seconds, whereas, Mack Horton settled fifth in a time of 15 minutes and 24.02 seconds.
Earlier, Kylie Palmer took home the Women’s 200m freestyle title with a sterling time of 1 minute and 55.07 seconds. After the race, Palmer said, “I'm really happy with that time and I'm in a really good place at the moment. That swim is good for my confidence
for a good swim at Worlds and leading into the Olympic Trials.”
Additionally, Brenton Rickard captured the Men’s 200m breast-stroke title with a winning time of 2 minutes and 08.02 seconds, while Leisel Jones snared the Women’s 50m breast-stroke meet with a time of 29.92 seconds.
Kenneth To also snatched the Men’s 100m IM title in 51.93 seconds. After the race, To said, “I have always enjoyed the short course format, testing my skills and my size which enables me to get off the start and work the turns.”
Furthermore, Jessicah Schipper won the Women’s 200m butterfly meet with a winning time of 2 minutes and 06.27 seconds, whereas, Christopher Wright snared the Men’s 100m butterfly race in 51.30 seconds.
