Rachel Goh claims Women’s 50m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Rachel Goh of Australia claimed gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Australian swimmer continued her stupendous efforts in the playoff of the shortest backstroke discipline. With her impressive form, she remained considerably ahead of her closest competitor and paved her way to the wall for gold medal.
Her commendable form placed her in a lead of half body length over her toughest challenger as she acquired the title by producing a time of 26.94 seconds.
The champion was chased by Magdalena Kuras of Sweden, who stayed 0.56 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 27.50 seconds.
Kuras was followed by Fabiola Molina of Brazil, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and captured bronze medal of the race by reporting a time of 27.58 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the event was obtained by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 27.63 seconds.
The Dutch swimmer was followed by Jessica Eriksson, who suffered a loss of one body length and proved her eligibility for fifth place by touching the wall with a timing of 28.72 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was obtained by Anni Alitalo of Finland, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall by producing an effort of 28.75 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Isabela Silva of Brazil and Ivana Gabrilo of Switzerland, who engaged each other in a stroke-to-stroke battle for seventh position.
Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but failed to do so and hit the wall with a joint finish. They stayed 0.11 seconds slower from Alitalo and completed their swims in seventh best place by clocking an effort of 28.86
seconds.
Furthermore, Goh was happy with her gold claiming effort in the race and articulated her desire of impressing her fans by achieving the same in future competitions.
