Rachel Goh conquers Women’s 100m backstroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Rachel Goh of Australia conquered gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on second day of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The Australian swimmer exceeded expectations of her supporters in the 100m discipline and cemented her place on top of the victory stand for the title.
With her impeccable pace, Goh ousted her challengers in a scintillating fashion as she touched the wall with an effort of 57.34 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Grace Loh of Australia, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing an effort of 57.75 seconds.
Similarly, Loh remained 1.21 seconds slower from Tianlongzi Xiu of China, who was lucky enough to step on the victory stand for third position by submitting a time of 58.96 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Jenny Mensing of Germany, who stayed 0.51 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher. Mensing was half a body length away from her preceding swimmer and emerged on
the finishing end with a timing of 59.47 seconds.
Fifth best position of the race was obtained by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who was unable to live up to the expectations of her supporters and finished her race in a time of 59.58 seconds.
Ingram was trailed by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who was 0.09 seconds away from her and concluded her swim in sixth place by reporting a time of 59.67 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Ngawati Kotuku of Australia, who stayed full body length slower from Lapshina and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.85 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Yaping Yu of China, who was 2.17 seconds slower and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 03.02 seconds.
In addition, Goh expressed happiness after claiming the title of the backstroke discipline and said that she would continue her hard work to achieve the same in future.
