Rachel Goh dominates Women’s 50m backstroke semi-final – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Rachel Goh of Nunawading dominated the semi-finals of Women’s 50m backstroke on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
With her unrelenting efforts, the 26-year-old Goh continued her dominance in the double lap backstroke discipline. She served notice of her talent and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
Goh proved supremacy over her opponents in the 50m discipline as she touched the wall with a timing of 27.32 seconds for top qualifying position.
Her scintillating form was trailed by Grace Loh of Melbourne VIC, who stayed only 0.16 seconds behind and secured second best qualification spot of the event by reporting a time of 27.48 seconds.
Loh was chased by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who stayed just 0.04 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 27.52 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the event was secured by Hayley Baker of Melbourne VIC, who remained just 0.30 seconds apart and submitted a time of 27.82 seconds.
Similarly, Baker was traced by Adelaide Hart of All Saints, WA, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower and posted a time of 27.83 seconds for fifth position.
Afterwards, the audience witnessed impeccable efforts of Olivia Halicek of University NSW, in the semi-finals of Women’s 50m freestyle. The 24-year-old Halicek remained marginally faster from her closest competitor and clocked an effort of 24.61 seconds.
Halicek was traced by Brittany Elmslie of Nudgee Brothers, who remained 0.08 seconds slower and posted a time of 24.69 seconds.
Elmslie was chased by Alexandra Purcell of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who remained 0.03 seconds slower and posted a time of 24.72 seconds for third position.
Subsequently, Purcell was followed by Marieke Guehrer of Melbourne VIC, who stayed 0.06 seconds behind and touched the wall for fourth position with a timing of 24.78 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Angie Bainbridge of Hunter, NSW, who hit the wall with an effort of 24.92 seconds.
In addition, Goh was excited with her top qualification effort and promised to do the same in playoff.
