Rachel Goh grabs Women’s 50m back-stroke title: 2011 FINA World Cup, Singapore
Summer Universiade champion, Rachel Goh of Australia knocked out her rivals on day one of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Singapore, on Friday, November 4. Goh captured the Women’s 50m back-stroke title.
Rachel Goh was combating with Shiho Sakai of Japan and Grace Loh of Australia in an important encounter, as Goh kicked off the final race in convincing fashion and thrashed out her rivals by touching the finishing blockade in a fastest mark of 26.73 seconds
to win the Women’s 50m back-stroke meet.
After the race, Sakai settled for silver medal in a spot of 26.94 seconds. Sakai had been the gold medallist in the Women’s 50m and 100m back-stroke events at the 2009 Summer Universiade editions, in Belgrade. In addition, she won two gold medals in the
100m back-stroke and 200m back-stroke meets at the 2011 Summer Universiade editions, in Shenzhen.
Meanwhile, Loh claimed bronze title in a mark of 27.46 seconds. She was the bronze medallist in the Women’s 50m back-stroke at the 2011 Summer Universiade editions, in Shenzhen. Alexianne Castel of France picked fourth spot by hitting the finishing wall
in a blot of 28.40 seconds.
Valeria Kolotushkina of Russia performed well in the respective race and pocketed fifth position by claiming the finishing cordon in an impressive time of 28.82 seconds, while Julia Larina of Russia picked sixth spot in a mark of 29.24 seconds. Yu Jung Lan
earned seventh place honours by thrashing the finishing barrier in a mark of 29.48 seconds, whereas, h*i Ying Stacy Tan of Singapore settled at eighth spot in a time of 30.90 seconds.
Finally, the victorious Rachel Goh was awarded gold medal due to her impressive performance in the respective race at the close of the session. The seven stop World Series is an important series for young guns of Australia, Singapore, Sweden, South Africa,
United States and Japan to prepare themselves hard for their futuristic meets of swimming. The sixth round of the 2011 FINA World Cup Series is set to occur in Beijing, China, from November 8-9.
