Rachel Goh impresses in Women’s 100m backstroke prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Rachel Goh of Nunawading impressed in the qualifying rounds of Women’s 100m backstroke on foremost day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
The 26-year-old Goh met expectations of her supporters in the four-lap backstroke event as she showed no mercy to her challengers and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade for top qualifying position.
Goh demonstrated her alluring efforts in the 100m discipline and showed her urgency towards the finishing end by touching the wall with a timing of 58.84 seconds.
She was followed by Grace Loh of Melbourne VIC, who remained 0.41 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and occupied second best qualification spot of the race by reporting a time of 59.25 seconds.
Loh was traced by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who remained 0.46 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in third best place by submitting a time of 59.71 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, who remained 0.50 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.21 seconds.
Stubbins faced tough contest from Hayley Baker of Melbourne VIC, who was 0.01 seconds slower from her and settled on the wall for fifth position with a timing of 1 minute and 00.22 seconds.
Sixth fastest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Hayley White of Cranbrook, who remained 0.21 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 00.43 seconds.
Subsequently, White enjoyed a benefit of 0.54 seconds over Lauren Rettie of River City Rapid, who completed her race in seventh best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.97 seconds.
Eighth best qualifying position of the event was obtained by Adelaide Hart of All Saints, WA, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower and finished her race with an effort of 1 minute and 01.10 seconds.
Goh expressed happiness over her fastest qualification effort in the discipline and articulated that she would try her best to capture gold medal.
