Rachel Goh pockets Women’s 100m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Rachel Goh of Australia pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Thursday, October 18.
The Australian swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents by capturing gold medal of the 100m discipline. She stayed in a substantial lead over her opponents throughout the race and paved her way to the finishing blockade for the title.
With her alluring efforts, Goh enjoyed a full body length lead over her closest swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 57.80 seconds.
The champion was followed by Etiene Medeiros of Brazil, who stayed 1.13 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing a nice effort of 58.93 seconds.
Medeiros was chased by Fabiola Molina of Brazil, who stayed 0.32 seconds behind and emerged on the wall as third best finisher by producing a fantastic time of 59.25 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Kylie Stewart of USA, who stayed only 0.15 seconds slower from securing her spot on the medal rostrum but ended fourth in the event by clocking a time of 59.40 seconds.
Stewart was chased by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who stayed 0.96 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end as fifth position holder by submitting a time of 1 minute and 00.36 seconds.
Lapshina was followed by her compatriot, Maria Gromova, who was 0.28 seconds slower and remained prominent for sixth position by reporting an effort 1 minute and 00.64 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was gained by Nadezhda Vinyukova of Russia, who suffered a deficit of only 0.10 seconds and concluded her race in a time of 1 minute and 00.74 seconds.
Vinyukova was traced by Shiming Chen of China, who stayed 0.40 seconds away from overpowering any of her opponents and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.14 seconds.
In addition, Goh received huge admiration from the audience for her notable efforts and received her accolades at the victory ceremony of the event.
