Rachel Goh pockets Women’s 50m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Rachel Goh of Australia pocketed the title of Women’s 50m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The Australian swimmer continued her astonishing efforts in the fourth stop of the World Cup Series. Goh, who dominated the same event at the previous stops of World Cup, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by repeating the same in Berlin.
She showed no mercy to her opponents in the 50m discipline and secured the title by reporting a time of 26.80 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Shiming Chen of China, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 27.11 seconds.
Third best spot of the race was obtained by Fabiola Molina of Brazil, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal with an effort of 27.29 seconds.
Subsequently, Molina was followed by Doris Eichhorn, who stayed 0.39 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 27.68 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth spot of the race was secured by Arianna Barbieri of Italy, who remained only 0.15 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 27.83 seconds.
Barbieri was chased by Melanie Schweiger of Switzerland, who remained just 0.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end as sixth position holder with an effort of 27.92 seconds.
Schweiger was traced by Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia, who was just an inch slower from her preceding finisher and made her way to the wall as seventh fastest swimmer with the timing of 28.01 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Ekaterina Avramova, who stayed only 0.05 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 28.06 seconds.
In addition, Goh was delighted with her unbeatable form in the 50m event and articulated that she would try to meet expectations of her supporters by doing the same in subsequent stops of the series.
