Rachel Goh seizes Women’s 100m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Rachel Goh of Australia seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The Australian swimmer served notice of her talent in the 100m discipline as she stifled hopes of her opponents by capturing gold medal.
With her impeccable pace, Goh remained in a considerable lead over her toughest opponent and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
Goh enjoyed a lead of almost two body lengths over her strongest rival and emerged on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 57.02 seconds.
The champion was followed by Fabiola Molina of Brazil, who stayed 1.85 seconds apart and finished second in the race by producing a time of 58.87 seconds.
Molina was chased by Kaitlyn Jones of USA, who was 0.04 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 58.91 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth best spot of the event was obtained by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand, who stayed 0.36 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 59.27 seconds.
Similarly, Ingram remained in a lead of 0.17 seconds over Kylie Stewart of USA, who reached the wall as fifth position holder by submitting an effort of 59.44 seconds.
Stewart was traced by Ekaterina Avramova, who was half a body length slower from her former swimmer and secured sixth place by touching the wall with an effort of 59.90 seconds.
Avramova was trailed by Arianna Barbieri of Italy, who tried hard to improve her position but remained 0.11 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.01 seconds for seventh position.
Barbieri enjoyed a benefit of 0.22 seconds over Jenny Mensing, who was unable to defeat any of her challengers and ended her race in last place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.23 seconds.
Furthermore, Goh was happy with her gold securing effort and said that she would try hard to continue the same in future.
