Rachel Goh snares Women’s 50m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Rachel Goh of Australia snared gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
Goh dictated terms to her opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline and proved her eligibility for the crown. She faced tough competition from her opponents in the first half of the race but with her astonishing form in the second half, Goh secured
the title.
The Australian swimmer stunned the aquatic crowd with her commendable form in the two-lap discipline, where she enjoyed a lead of more than half body length over her following swimmer and seized the title with a timing of 26.87 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Fabiola Molina of Brazil, who stayed 0.64 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the race by producing an effort of 27.51 seconds.
Third spot of the event was obtained by Shiming Chen of China, who remained 0.17 seconds slower from the silver medallist and tapped the wall with a timing of 27.68 seconds.
Chen was traced by Ekaterina Tomashevskaya of Russia, who stayed 0.35 seconds slower from her former finisher and surfaced on the wall as fourth position holder with an effort of 28.03 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Kylie Stewart of USA, who was 0.28 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end as fifth best finisher with an effort of 28.31 seconds.
The American swimmer was chased by Alexandra Papusha of Russia, who suffered a deficit of just 0.08 seconds from her preceding finisher and emerged on the finishing end for sixth position with an effort of 28.39 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who was 0.31 seconds slower and appeared on the wall with an effort of 28.70 seconds.
Etiene Medeiros of Brazil was disqualified from the race due to a false start and was unable to secure any position.
In addition, Goh was delighted with her title claiming effort and articulated that she would try her best to accomplish the same in future.
