Rachel Goh snares Women’s 50m backstroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Rachel Goh of Australia snared gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on opening day of the concluding stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The Australian swimmer demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the shortest backstroke discipline and proved her eligibility for the title. With her unrelenting efforts in the playoff of the discipline, Goh showed no mercy to her opponents and proved her mettle for the title.
She faced tough competition from her closest competitor from the start but with her exceptional pace, Goh managed to out-touch her over the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing a time of 27.06 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Tianlongzi Xiu of China, who suffered a deficit of only 0.02 seconds from her former finisher and reached the finishing blockade for silver medal by touching the wall with an effort of 27.08 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Goh’s teammate, Grace Loh, who stayed 0.63 seconds slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for third position by submitting an effort of 27.71 seconds.
Loh enjoyed a comfortable lead over her following swimmer, Polina Lapshina of Russia, who stayed 0.77 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as fourth best finisher by reporting a time of 28.48 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Lynette Ng of Singapore, who stayed only 0.08 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end with the timing of 28.56 seconds.
Similarly, Ng was traced by Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who stayed only 0.05 seconds apart and tapped the wall for sixth position by clocking an effort of 28.61 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Yaping Yu of China, who was full body length behind and hit the wall with an effort of 29.46 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Stacy Tan of Singapore, who was one and a half body length behind and concluded her race in a time of 31.13 seconds.
Furthermore, Goh received awards and accolades for her gruelling form after the session.
