Rachel Goh stuns in Women’s 50m backstroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Rachel Goh of Australia occupied gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on foremost day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The Australian swimmer stunned the aquatic crowd with her gruelling efforts in the shortest backstroke discipline, where she showed no mercy to her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal.
With her unrelenting efforts, Goh enjoyed a marginal lead over her toughest competitor and proved her mettle for the title. She remained hardly an arm-stroke ahead of her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing
of 26.66 seconds.
The champion was chased by Haihua Cheng, who was 0.15 seconds slower and rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 26.81 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Yanxin Zhou, who was 0.37 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for third position with a timing of 27.18 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Yuanhui Fu of China, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall with an effort of 27.24 seconds.
Fu was traced by Grace Loh of Australia, who remained just 0.13 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as fifth best finisher by submitting a time of 27.37 seconds.
Subsequently, Loh remained 0.28 seconds faster from Rui Zhao, who emerged on the finishing end as sixth best finisher by reporting an effort of 27.65 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who was half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 28.04 seconds.
Lapshina was chased by Yiwen Jiang, who was 0.28 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as eighth position holder with a timing of 28.32 seconds.
In addition, Goh was overjoyed with her gold finish and articulated that she would train harder in future to occupy the title of the same event at 2012 World Championships.
