  1. Get a repair manual from Haynes or Chiltons to educate yourself about your car because there is a certain percentage of auto repair shops that will scoop you for money if they sense you don't know anything about your car's mechanicals.

    Most likely is something to do with the carburetor or maybe the gas pedal linkage... lipstick under gas pedal? wad of carpet under there? Take the air cleaner off the carburetor and fiddle around with that flapper valve on the top -that's the 'choke', it has a rod linkage to stepped 'cam' -judiciously spray some carburetor cleaner on those external linkages to see if you can 'free them up'. If that doesn't work you may have to check that round black thing on the side of carburetor -that's the 'choke's thermostatic spring -it may need adjustment or cleaning -hope this helps
