I recently went to a local track this weekend on the very first lap I fell and broke my front brake lever as the day went on I got faster and faster and on the last lap I was going the faster than I ever was. Do you think i'm ready to race or should I practice more?

  1. practice makes perfect, practice a little more but its not only a pro's dessision to knowing but also your to thinknig when your ready, youll know when your ready

  2. Hit a few more races...Also every practice that you can get to...Seat time makes for a fast rider..

  3. um well it doesn't really matter how fast you go it really matters on if you can handle a track and also if you can jump to. iv been riding since i was 4 and started racing on a super pro 50 when i turned 6.So really practice a lot and become the best you can be. And when you feel like you are at you r best and really have the heart for it. Then go for it man

  4. You can never have enough practice and practice does make prefect. You will know when you are ready, when the curves become smooth to you and you can feel the track & know what turns are coming up in your head. And what is the right speed for you to enter and exit the curves. Also you need to learn  the proper braking,  when exiting the straightaway into the curves and find your set markers(For Braking)....Also you need to practice with other riders on the track so you can get a proper feel for passes and drifting behind other riders....There is alot to learn...Give yourself a month or two before you start racing,to learn some techiques to keep yourself safe, have fun and win......

GOD Bless You and Keep You

  5. Do you ever go to races at this track as a spectator? If so just look for some of the guys running your class and try pacing them in practice to see how you stack up. Of course there is no shame in finishing last your first race.

  6. Attend a few more practice days before you decide to race as it is important to feel comfortable with other riders pushing you around on the track.  See if you can get friendly with some of the other riders and maybe they will line up with you for a few practice starts as it can be pretty intimidating when sitting on a grid that is full of riders all revving their bikes ready to take off.

As far as breaking your levers goes if it becomes a problem you can purchase ones that are guaranteed not to break.  They cost more but are cheaper in the end if you break a few.

For race day make sure you carry a few spares of things that you may break or need to replace.  Like if riding on a very sandy, wet track you sometime go through a set of brake pads very quickly.  Spark plugs are always important to have spares of.  Just ask a few of the regular racers what things they carry in their spares.

  7. I would practise a lot more. Your skills will sharpen with seat time. Local racing you will not get nearly as much seat time as you will on a practise day. Try and put in consecutive laps and improve on areas each lap. Do not go crazy for a lap or two think your fast then stop. Lap after lap after lap will get you there. Once you feel that you can be competitive then go for it. If your area has more than 1 track ride them all, even if one is better then the other you need to ride all conditions.

    Good luck!
