Racing Santander hold Almeria to a draw with 10 men: La Liga match update
Racing Santander held Almeria to a 1-1 draw in a La Liga encounter at the Juegos Mediterraneo on Thursday evening. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gonzalo-Colsa-c15109 opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half, which was cancelled out by Albert Crusat’s equaliser in the second period.
Almeria made three changes to his starting line-up that lost 3-1 against Malaga over the weekend. Suspended duo, Antonio Luna and Leonardo Ulloa, were replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Jakobsen-c25311 and Juanito respectively, while injured Hernan Bernardello was replaced by
Antonio Crusat. On the other hand, the visitors made several changes to their team that drew 2-2 against Villarreal on Sunday. Ariel Nahuelpan started upfront in a 4-5-1 formation for the visitors.
The match witnessed a brisk start, as the hosts could have scored in the first minute of the game. Juanito’s header from Modeste Mbami’s corner went just wide of the left post. The hosts came close to scoring thrice in the opening six or seven minutes, but
their shots missed the target by a few inches.
In the 16th minute, Moss Henrique was shown a straight red card for an awful tackle on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Markus-Rosenberg-c24251.
The hosts dominated the possession and territory as the ten men visitors were outnumbered in the midfield battle. Almeria should have scored just before the half hour mark but Jakobsen nodded a free header just wide of the goal.
After all the pressure from the home team, it was the visitors who opened the scoring against the run of play. Colsa latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area and hammered his shot into the goal past the diving goalkeeper.
Just on the brink of closure of the first half, the visitors had an opportunity to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrián-González-c3726 mis-hit
penalty, to deny Racing the second goal.
Despite being down to ten men, Racing were clearly the dominant force in the game. They came close to doubling their lead immediately after the resumption of second half but Ariel smacked a shot just over the bar.
The hosts managed to level the scoring just after the hour mark. Miguel http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Corona-c9444 and Crusat played lovely one-two passes before the latter smashed the ball from close range which beat everyone into the goal.
The goal helped the hosts to regain their confidence, as they came close to scoring with several opportunities. The closest they came was, when Henok Goitom’s shot from close range brushed the far post and went out for a goal kick.
Neither side could convert their chances into a winner, as an entertaining match ended 1-1.
Racing Santander will play Real Madrid in their next match on 6th March, while Almeria take on Hercules the same day.
