I have been riding for just under a year now.

I am allready onto my 2nd bike which is a cbr600rr.

i love my bike i ride every day. its the best thing i have ever done. I have only crashed once which was when some lunatic drove out in front of me. In the last 11 months i have only missed 2 days of not riding it as it was in for a service.

I feel comfortable with this bike its great.

But now im over the whole riding on my own. I am with a social rider's club but its only every month that we go on rides.

I want to start racing and i just want to know how to go about it?

As in wat i need and where is good to start...

  1. Well yeah the answers above pretty much said it all.  As for the school part, its not required, the only school required is a single manditory qualifying session at a track to get your racing license. The track will issue a certian time limit that you must complete the track in, to get the license.

Ight so the way to get started. Find the closest track to where you live. Search on the internet at places like NESBA.com  Sportbiketracktime.com , MVPtracktime.com   and other Track day websites.  Find out all the info you can such as time date, requirements, and next open day. You can find it on all those websites.

You WILL need eather a full one peice set of leathers, or a 2 peice that can connect together to make it a one peice.  Must have no more then 20% wear on your tires... those are just 2 requirements out of many.

Next once you do a few track days and get whats called Track time, hours youve been on a track. show up at a local race and enter your bike into it. They will then let you try out for the timed run. If you pass the run then you will become a provisional racer. You will wear a bright shirt over your leathers so everyone knows your a begginer. Once you finish 2 races without issues then you will no longer be a provisional.

But yeah i used to race so if you would like any more info just email me. I can also help you find tracks close to your location if you need help.

  2. Find nearest track, contact them and ask for track day schedule.

You'll need to do a bunch of bike prep, lock wire drain plugs and change coolant for plain water. (this will cause problems on CBR, you'll need to remove thermostat as well)

You can check out AMA, CCS, AHRMA for rules.

Generally you will need full leathers,( one or two piece) over ankle boots and a DOT/Snell helmet (or equivalent)

Bike will have a safety inspection at track as long as it pases you should be good to go. You will almost certainly have to go to some sort of schoolfirst, for your and everyone elses safety

  3. Search the web for - motorcycle racing school

Before signing up, take a trip out to see what's it's like - you'll be impressed.
