Racing pigeon found?!?

Hi,

I've looked at the previous answers on here but there's none i can find the answer from!

Is GB97 enough for the owner to recognise the bird/area it's from, or do i need to read the whole thing?

It only has one ring (yellow), with 2 numbers above another 2. and then a number around the ring. Is this a racing pigeon?

After 2 days, should i not feed it? Should i still leave the water out for it?

It went away yesterday, but has come back today! (it's only been here 2 days).

Obviously you can catch it, so open up the wings and on the underside there is very likely to be the owners telephone number.

GB97 is just the year and country locator - British bird born last year, you need the whole number then your local racing club will be able to identify the owner.

Sorry but if it's gotten lost the owner probably wont want it back, kinda like when greyhounds aren't fast enough anymore....  You should just leave it alone unless it's injured, maybe it's on a very long journey and is resting.

if there are phone numbers ring them thats what i did. They might not want it back if its hurt, Take it to the vet if they dont want it and the vet will take it off you or they might send you to a pigeon home for itt, just feed it bird food and water for now.

and give it a warm room to live in and a toy or mirror for it, or put it in a cage with hay in for bedding.

If you can catch it and put it in a cage like a cat carrier or a box with holes in. Offer it some water in a bowl although i have seen some pigeon owners use rabbit water bottles. Feed it bird seed.

Make sure you take down all of the numbers and then ring pigeon association. They will locate the owner who will get hold of you and either collect himself or send a pigeon courier.

If you cant catch it ring thr RSPCA and they'll cme out and catch it for you.
