Hi

Are people that come from a lower socio-economical status more likely to be racist? Is there any sources that would back this statement or disprove it?

Thanks!!

  1. There are racist of all kinds.

Ignorance is just ignorance, regardless of money, class, or intellect.

Thank goodness for the beautiful people!

  2. racist probably not

    prejudice probably

    they are two different things

most people of low socioeconomic status are minorities

many may think of those with money (most often white) in certain ways

  3. Yes, people that come from a lower socio-economical status is more likely to be racist.

Racism is use to equilibrating the social esteem. For instance.

"I am poor, but you are worst because you are Hispanic"

Racism is use to equilibrating insecurity feelings. For instance.

"Yes, I do not known how to speak English correctly, but I do not agree that schools teach Spanish. It is a lost of time."

Low class members have frustration about obtaining material , social and intellectual goals that interferes negatively in security feelings and self esteem perception.

Too, low social class goes with lack of education that is the one of the variables that explains racism.

  4. No I don't think that you will find data that really supports that statement very well.  The University of Toronto has a Data Library website and you could look at some survey data to see if there is a relationship between socio-economic status and the amount of racism a person exhibits, but based on my quick look at the World Values survey on there I doubt you would find anything really significant.  You would have to be clear about your definition of racism though.  However, you would be very likely to find that race has a big effect on SES (generally, that certain races tend to have lower SES than others).
