Racism in businesses?

  1. I don't know about other countries, but racism would NOT be an accepted strategy in the USA today. It's probably even illegal - acts of racism are considered hate crimes.

    Certainly most companies recognize that if they welcome customers of all races, they will have a lot more people who want to *be* customers. Most companies have worked to show that their products are for everyone by having people of all races in their ads. Benetton is especially well known for this.

    Now, having said that, some products are kind of targeted towards certain races. For example, hair straightening products are used mostly by black people. You don't see white faces on boxes of hair straightener. That's not *racist* marketing, though. Racist is being against a race. There's nothing anti-white about the packaging. It's just that straightening is done by people with very curly hair, which most blacks have and most whites don't have.

    Why on earth would you even consider using racism to market something? What would you be marketing?
