Question:

Racist remarks at work.?

I'm half black and half white and I was going back and forth with a team lead at work and she was telling me about a new person they hired starting Monday. She asked me if I saw her and I told her no. She went ahead to tell me that she's black and she has certain opinions about black people. I asked her if she even met the person to have an opinion and she said no. Here's the rest verbatim.

"nope so should not judge but have had many not good impressions and experience with them that I am instantly turned off with them. There obviously allot of very educated and smart people out there so I am not prejudice do like them. It's the ghetto talk and acting I HATE and look at our mayor and stuff. I just know people will have to really watch how they talk in here and stuff now cause definitely have talked not nice about that race. Like today M was talking with a insurance and the girl said hang on have to axe someone. Please don't think I am horrible for this and will get past it. My stepdaughter has probably not helped with total losers mostly guys of that race and how they act and what they do oh my. I hope this makes sense."

OK, #1 my dad is black and says 'axe' instead of 'asks'. Does that make him stupid?

#2 The fact that she mentions certain people in the group talk down about the race, infuriates me!!

#3 Why the heck this person would spill her beans with me is beyond me. She said she thought I was Jamaican and that I wouldn't be offended.

Need some input and help guys.

  1. She's an idiot.

Even if you are Jamaican you are still Black.

Just ignore her...and talk about whatever her race is and see how she likes it.

  2. Get over it. Racial prejudices will never go away even thought they are wrong.

OK, # 1 No it doesn't make him stupid but it apppears to make him uneducated. Perception is 90% of everything.

#2 If that is the worse that happens to you then you will be fine.

    #3 She is an idiot.

  3. Jeezuz...it was just an opinion.  People can't have an opinion anymore?  Sounds like one based on actual experience at that.  Yes axe sounds stupid, but I suppose ya'll does too but I say that all the time being from the south.

Lighten up, no need to have more Nuremberg Trials just yet.

  4. Well i dont get how she made that omment infront of you, knowing that you obviously are partly black (mixed race) that is a very stupid thing to do, i personally would make it clear to that small minded women, that it is her role to lead people and respect people, and if she is to make remarks like that to and about other people, she shouldnt be doing a job like that (working with people) i would take it further to be honest, no one, no matter what age, race, where you are from etc etc, should have to deal with that. or feel like they cant say anything about it.
