Question:

Radar gun possibly pointed to me?

I was driving on the FDR Drive Southbound in NYC and there was a cop on the North side pointing and looking into a radar gun, but he was pointing it towards the cars that were going South. I was going in the left lane and was over the speed limit. Speed limit is 40 and I was between 45 and 55. I dont remember. Usually when I see cops using radar guns, they point it towards the oncoming traffic. Can they also detect speed from opposite side traffic from that far (I saw him pointing it from my rearview mirror)? Obviously I didn't get pulled over because I made it to Brooklyn already by the time he would have exited the highway and went around to the South side (he can't make a U-turn on that highway because there's no place to make one).

Is it possible that I will be receiving a speeding ticket with no points? I'm not fully knowledgeable on these radar guns but I know how to fight tickets from them- except the only difference is that this time I didn't even get pulled over.

Please advise

Thanks so much

  1. i think youre fine

  2. just go the speed limit honey

  3. yes they can detect you coming or going but I strongly agree with your 1st answer and wouldn't worry about it,I never herd of a speeding ticket by mail before. good luck any ways.

  4. Yes it can detect the opposite traffic and yes if you did get caught then yes you can receive a ticket by mail but if this should happen these tickets are usually dismissed.

I my state the DPS do the same thing and these tickets have a name, they call them hit or miss because you never signed the ticket and you can always say that you were either not driving or that you were not in that area, that are just hoping that people will just pay the fine and not come in to fight it.
