Radek Stepanek destroys Andreas Seppi in second round – German Tennis Championship 2011
Out of the ten 2nd round matches of the German Tennis Championships 2011 at Hamburg, Radek Stepanek played his part against the Italian stallion Andreas Seppi in a 2 setter to victory. Played at the Rothenbaum Tennis
Court, the match was exciting from the start to the end. The clay centre court was evened off as the players made their way to the court.
Radek, ranked at World No.57, might be low down the order at the time but has been successful against the top players. His winning records against Andreas were as impressive as his previous win. Winning all 3 times, including this
match, Radek already had his claws on his pray. The 32-year-old Czech was formerly ranked at World No.8 but dropped down with time.
At 27 years of age, Andreas Seppi has played a total of 640 matches altogether. Ranking at world No.39, Seppi had been warming up his game on grass courts perfectly but struggled to makeup his mark on clay courts. The Eastbourne
Open winner had his challenge against the Czech for the 3rd time but somehow he again failed to deliver a loss to the old guy.
Kicking off with the match, the old bulldozer, Stepanek opened up the match and the score card. After the first game, Stepanek seemed as if he was playing an amateur. He took the first 4 games including 2 breakpoints and had a
rather funny 4-0 lead at the start. Game 5 that seemed more of a charity went to Seppi as he won a breakpoint and the only game of the set. Radek went wild as he ended the 1st set winning the last two games 6-1.
Opening up the first game of the second set, Seppi made the first run of the set 1-0. Radek followed the trail to level the scores at 1-1. The scores went of till 3-4 in game 14 with the world No.57, Radek serving to the Italian.
Giving away a breakpoint, Radek now lacked behind 2 games from the 27 year-Old Italian. However, that was, I guess, just a blind fold by the Czech. Smothering the dreams of his rival, Radek levelled the scores at 5-5; heart attacked at 6-5 and finished off
his pray in one hour 28 minutes.
The facts recorded an easy win for the Czech. With 40 service and 33 return points, Radek scored 73 points in total to win the match. Andreas could not save any breakpoints and also had less 1st and 2nd serve
points.
Radek now moves on to the third round of the German Tennis Championships 2011 to play against the No.1 seed of the tour world number seven, Gael Monfils in the next round.
