Question:

Radiating chest pain?

Last night I had bad chest pain. It felt like someone took a tazor to my heart. It radiated to my arm and down to my stomach. Every time I breathed, it got worse and I couldn't talk or anything of that sort. It didn't last long, maybe a minute. After wards, i was weak and cold. It happened while my husband and I were laying in bed just talking, no strenuous activity. Should I be worried? What was it?

I should mention that I am 22 years old, I am a female, don't smoke/drink, have low blood pressure and I am considered underweight (5'3 and 103 pounds)

  1. Don't worry yourself. I know this sounds funny but it's just gas. I get those once in a while too. Gas bubbles and air can get trapped in your chest and cause intense pain. You can stop them by tightening your stomach muscles or putting pressure on the area where it hurts and exhale sharply. It could also be more serious, if your unsure about it see your doctor and get an ekg.

  2. It's very difficult sometimes to tell the difference between heartburn and heart-related problems.  Given your age and physical description, a heart attack doesn't seem very likely, but its still possible.  Your symptoms look like it might be heartburn given the taser description, but the weak and cold feeling - this is too similar to heart-attack signs that almost any medical professional probably would have have recommended going to an ER to be on the safe side.

A person i worked with (a man in his mid-50s) was complaining at work of being cold and fatigued several days in a row before he died of a heart attack.  These were the only heart attack warnings he had before he died.

  3. You should have gone to the ER.  please see a doc, they will do an EKG and a chest xray.  Being underweight can be very dangerous.

  4. see your doctor asap.  get an ekg and a chest xray.
