I live in a older building with radiators. I have a 8 month old that will be 1 this winter. Is there anything I can do or buy to protect him from the radiator.

  1. Buy a fireguard - a wire shield normally used to protect children from open fires.

Obstruct the radiator with furniture, or towels on an airer.

Go to a Mothercare or Childcare type of shop and ask what other people with radiators do.

Try asking in a Disabled Shop too - I know it sounds odd but the Elderly and Infirm also need protections from direct heat so they might come up with some other ideas.

Sorry, I can't think of anything else.

  2. Not much.Take time to explain what hot means and stay focused.Usually only takes once.

  3. Not really, most are metal and get hot, too.  Teach him it's a No No ..HOT!

  4. There are radiator covers that you can build or have built.  Generally speaking they are a 3 sided box with a ledge top and grates to allow the heat to escape on the sides.  They allow enough space between the rad and the cover so as not to be a fire danger.  Ask a contractor to design you one, though they are really quite simple to build.
