Having just laminated the floor i find that my radiator is leaking from directly beneath the right hand valve.I have checked the tightness of all the fittings and they are ok.Can i fix the leak by removing the valve without the need of disconnecting the complete radiator?

  1. is it leaking from the stem that holds the wheel ? (thats the shut off handle) You can put some more packing string in the nut and that will stop it.

Ask he guy at the hardware store and he will explain.

  2. some shut-off valves can be repaired others must be replaced. See if you can find replacement parts for the valve. Your local hardware shop should do those. However make sure the valves arent to tight or it will cause erosion.

  4. If you take the valve out be careful not to strip the threads.

On the show this old house they showed how to put new threads in a cast iron radiator and they made it look easy. LOL
