The malady is referred to as one needing to hurt oneself.  What you need to do is the discover what childhood misperception you took-on that you are playing out with this obviously self-harming activity.

Perhaps connected with your dad or significant male and a car at some time early on in your life.

By the way, does it also "hurt" when you touch one on the shelf of a parts place, and the radiator is cold?
