Radio Code for 2000 GMC Safari

Question

You mean to tell me that every time I replace the batery, or I remove the positive cable, I have to pay the dealer to put the code back to working?, What a gimic. It would be cheeper to just replace the radio with an after market. I was just trying to keep everything original. Thank you
