Well. I asked earlier about how to become a DJ etc... and I'v discovered that it's a good idea to send a demo tape. Well I'v been looking what to put on a demo tape and I'v learned everything but what I want to know Is if it's ok to use backing music so it doesn't sound to quiet and that. Does anyone know?

  1. I'm going to go a little deeper with suggestions.  #1 - Don't talk like a "DJ".  A lot of folks in the beginning (me included) think you have to have a "big voice" sound.  Read some stuff on-line about your favorite artists/bands then put it in your own words like you'd be telling it to a friend.  Use the same inflections you would use too.  Be high energy but careful not to confuse volume and speed with energy.  The best example I can give is my own.  Feel free to check out mine at http://www-dot-jontalbott-dot-bravehost-...

    Hope this helps.

  2. it's perfectly fine to use backing music, but make sure it's a simple and at least somewhat repetitive loop. you don't want something that changes that often or it'll distract people

  3. Keep the "tape" in the format of the station that you are approaching.  Use their style and their type of music.  Now days, rather than a tape most stations are looking for CD's.  Otherwise, cassettes or DAT is fine.  I'd recomend burning CD's as they are more universal and easier to mail.
