Radio Replacement?

Alright, make a long story short, my little brother had his radio stolen, and I'm gonna put in an extra one I have. I check and it fits the slot and locks in, but the wiring is where I have 2 questions.

Alright, I DO know electrical, I'm very familiar with it, so terminology shouldn't be an issue with answers.

I have counted the wires and colors comming fromt he radio and on the cut harness in the vehicle. I can match every wire to a same color wire, so is it just match up the colors?

And I have seen alot of the twist cap connectors, are thosr prefered in audio, because I am used to using solder and heat shrink. What is the best methos of splicing the wires together for audio.

Thanks for you help.

  1. The solder and shrink is the best way for me

  2. sonora radio

  3. Unfortunately the wiring colors do not always match.  Fine example is my current buggy where all the colors do not match.  I had to get an adaptor for the wiring harness from the vehicle and then wire the radio (replacement) to the adaptors wires which were labelled and this made it easier.

The solder heat shrink is better and neater.  I utilized connectors with blades so i just crimped the female/male connectors onto the wire ends and then plugged them in.  Mine are covered connectors so no exposed metal.  Used female on the adaptor, male on the radio wires and it was a simple slide the radio into slot and reach in and plug in the connectors to the appropriate wire.
