Radio Shack and Leopard Trek not to merge in 2012 – Cycling News
There was strong indication that the team Leopard Trek was to merge with Radio Shack in the coming season which has now been denied by Tim Vanderjeugde, spokesman for Leopard Trek. It was said that Brian Nygaard will leave the team and then general manager
of Leopard Trek, Johan Bruyneel will be in charge of both the teams in the 2012 season.
Team Leopard Trek is based in Luxembourg with Kim Andersen as their directeur sportif and Brian Nygaard as general manager of the team. Schleck brothers have joined the team after leaving Saxo Bank in 2010 season along with many other riders. Team Leopard
Trek is currently racing at the Vuelta a Espana 2011 and the 9 riders that represented the team are Bennati Daniele, Cancellara Fabian, Fuglsang Jakob, Monfort Maxime, O’Grady Stuart, Vigano Davide, Wagner Robert, Zaugg Oliver and Rohregger Thomas.
Fabian Cancellara of Leopard Trek is currently at second position with 12 seconds behind the Sky rider Christopher Froome and Maxime Monfort of Leopard Trek is at 6th position. Jakob Fuglsang of Leopard Trek is at number 7 with 41 points and his
team-mate Danielle Bennati is at 20th position with 24 points. Team Leopard Trek is leading the team classification after stage 10 general classifications with Team Radio Shack at second and Rabobank Cycling Team at third position.
Team Radio Shack was introduced in July 23, 2009 and legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong is amongst their owners with Johan Bruyneel as their general manager and Dirk Demol as the directeur sportif. Brajkovic Janez, Busche Matthew, Irizar Aranburu Markel,
Kloden Andreas, Lequatre Geoffroy, Machado Tiago, Santos Simoes Oliveira Nelson Filipe, Paulinho Sergio Miguel Moreira, Zubeldia Agirre Haimar are currently representing the team at Vuelta a Espana 2011.
Janez Brajkovic of team Radio Shack is at 9th position with his team-mate Haimar Zubeldia Agirre at 10th position after the stage 10 general classifications. Team Radio Shack is currently at second position with Leopard Trek at first
position after the team classification.
Vanderjeugde told a famous cycling website while commenting about the merger of two teams as he said, “On the team’s behalf, I can flatly deny that there is a merger with RadioShack, we see it as pure rumour. Nobody on our team has heard of any merger. Brian
Nygaard is still on the pay roll here at Leopard Trek and has not taken any decision to leave the team.”
The a popular French newspaper first came up with the merger news and they believed that there will be a financial reason behind the move but Vanderjeugde has pretty much cleared the news as all we know of now is that team Radio Shack and team Leopard Trek
will not merge for the 2012 season.
