Radio The Pits? A Question From Duh.?

The following is a headline story from a trade email I get every day. With a lot of the members of this board looking toward a career in radio, how does this make you feel?

Radio a "worst job for the 21st Century."

The U.S. Labor Department says radio will be among the slowest-growing industries in the coming decade. Government economists say consolidation and technology breakthroughs will lead to 5% fewer radio announcers by 2015. Among the "negatives" for radio work - shift work and low pay, with the median salary for a radio employee about $11 an hour.

I believe myself that radio sucks.  Was in the business for 10 years.  Money stunk.  Got called on all different shifts.  Never got any respect except from my listeners.  I do admit i miss it from time to time.  Because once you do ready, it gets in your blood....lol

WOW! They have very low expectations for my career. I beg to differ. I know for a fact the radio station I work for has had their best numbers ever when ratings came out. We are growing and I think the decline that may apply to music format radio. That, in my eyes is declining. They play the same 20 songs over and over till you want to kill yourself. Talk Radio is what I believe the format that will save radio. It's catching on, and not only for old people anymore. AM radio is for your mother but FM talk is what's now.

And the worst part about it .. this is a job like a police officers job... you don't do it for the pay.. you do it for the love of doing it period.

But as Duh knows, I'm not in it only for the mic time.... I rather the whole enchilada..only thing is Ed McManon hasn't called me yet from Publisher's Clearing house so it may take a while:-)
