  1. icom makes ica22 ica23ic-a3 ic-a4

    yaesu make vxa150, vxa-210, vxa-700

but since 911 I don't know if they are sill selling them.

you have to have a very good reason and fcc permit

  2. Gearbox, with all due respect aircraft do not transmit communications on normal AM frequencies.  Communications take place between the range of 118.0 MHZ and below 137.0 MHz.  Frequencies are sectioned off to avoid one use interfering with another.  Non Directional Beacons however have frequency overlap with AM stations.

To the asker.  Aircraft to tower communications take place between 118.0 and 121.4 MHz.  Aircraft to ARTCC communications are on a higher frequency range.  The best place I know to get a transiever (combo transmitter / reciever) or simply a reciever on the aircraft band is http://www.sportys.com/acb/Category.cfm?...

You can pick up an AM/FM/Aircraft band reciever for 100 USD.  You shouldn't need a pilot's certificate to purchase one.

Use caution though, if you get a radio capable of transmitting and you transmit false instructions to an aircraft, that is a very serious crime.

If you want to listen for free to atc to aircraft communications over the internet you should go to www.liveatc.net.

  3. Most scanners will do the AM aircraft band..radio shack sells a few to listen with.

if you are talking about to talk with, you need a reason to get one (some places won't sell without a pilot's license) but basically there are websites to buy them from after a search of "aircraft radios")
