Radio stations...a thing they do (below), whats it called...?

First theres some guy saying "Music you just have to sing along to" then theres some superficial music and a woman sums up with "Century FM" - a lot of radio stations do it but whats it called? advert, slogan...?

  1. Both of the above answers are correct as far as they go. There are several names for what you describe. However, technically, you describe a combination voicer (or sweeper, shout, bumper, promo, ID...) that's been married to a jingle - a musical branding tool used by lots of companies including radio stations.

    Not all stations use them. Some program directors hate them and will not air them on their stations (except of course the ones that are paid advertising).

    An advert is a phrase most often heard in the UK for most any kind of advertising. A slogan is a branding statement used for marketing and establishing a "brand" for a company. It can be applied with music, spoken word or written for print purposes.

    Just for fun, plug the word "jingle" (without the quotes) into your favorite search engine and you'll find an entire culture of aficionados who collect, discuss and study jingles! You'll also find many companies that produce jingles as their primary business model. Who'da thought?

  3. its called a radio jingle, all stations use this to let listeners know what radio station the are listening to.

    there is also dj jingles. I worked in radio some years ago.
