RadioShack-Nissan-Trek warming up to take on the 2012 season
The new RadioShack-Nissan-Trek squad is training hard for its first professional appearance as the team gathers at the Spanish resort, Calpe. The new team resulted after the two top sides announced their merger for the 2012 season.
The team has finalized its roster, a total number of 30 cyclists from 14 different nations will represent the team in season ahead.
Top riders from RadioShack and Leopard-Trek were selected to ensure the toughest possible line-up for the debut season.
Johan Bruyneel, General Manager of the team, will be accompanied by six different Team Directors. The team management is positive that it has chosen the riders on merit and they will have the best team to defend in the new season.
The training camp at the Spanish resort is being attended by the maximum number of riders. In fact, it was reported that Fabian Cancellara was the only player missing, as he is spending most of his time in his hotel room after catching flu.
Cancellara was seen in action, exploring the Olympic time trial and road courses in London, along with his Team Manager, Johan Bruyneel.
The training camp is led by the Schleck brothers, Andy and Frank are accompanied by Chris Horner, Andreas Kloden and Oliver Zaugg during the session.
The second bunch at the training session includes the American champion Matt Busche, Adriano Baffi and Hayden Roulston.
Andy Schleck commented on the training as he said, “We ride in three groups because otherwise it’s just too big on the road, and we change the groups every day”.
He further added that, “Most of the guys I knew before, but now you really get time at the table in the evening to know the others better”.
The final RadioShack-Nissan-Trek squad announced consists of, Jan Bakelants, Daniele Bennati, George Bennett, Matthew Busche, Fabian Cancellara, Laurent Didier, Jakob Fuglsang, Tony Gallopin, Linus Gerdemann, Ben Hermans, Chris Horner, Markel Irizar, Ben
King and Andreas Klöden.
The team will also be supported by Tiago Machado, Maxime Monfort, Giacomo Nizzolo, Nelson Oliveira, Yaroslav Popovych , Joost Posthuma, Gregory Rast , Thomas Rohregger , Hayden Roulston , Andy Schleck, Frank Schleck, Jesse Sergent ,Jens Voigt , Robert Wagner
, Oliver Zaugg and Haimar Zubeldia.
Team Directors for the newly created line-up consist of Jose Azevedo, Kim Andersen, Alain Gallopin, Dirk Demol, Luca Guercilena and Lars Michaelsen.
