RadioShack-Nissan extends Yaroslav Popovych and
Giacomo Nizzolo's contracts
Johan Bruyneel extended Yaroslav Popovych and Giacomo Nizzolo’s contracts for the coming season and the duo is all set to represent Team RadioShack-Nissan in the season ahead.
Giacomo is considered as one of the best developing sprinters in the sport and has shown a lot of improvement since his debut appearance in 2011.
He started riding professionally with Team Leopard Trek in 2011 and was chosen to represent Team RadioShack-Nissan for 2012.
The Italian helped the team with numerous victories in the first half of the season including stage wins at the Tour de Wallonie, Eneco Tour and the Tour du Poitou-Charentes.
He secured the first overall position at the Tour de Wallonie, third at the Vattenfall Cyclassics and occupied the fifth overall spot during the Ster ZLM Toer 2012.
Johan Bruyneel was delighted to retain the young cyclist on his side and cited that Nizzolo has shown a lot of improvement in the past two-years and he has high expectations from him in the season to come.
"Giacomo is one of the most promising youngsters out there,” Bruyneel cited.
“He's been progressing a lot in these two years as a neo-pro and I'm really excited that he has chosen to stay with us, despite other interesting offers”.
“It shows that confidence works both ways. I'm confident that Giacomo is going to claim his spot within the top tier of sprinters in the next years," he concluded.
The cyclist has given a two-year contract with the team and he is all set to improve his performance in the coming years.
"I'm pleased to stay in the team where I have gotten the chance to grow as a pro bike rider," said Nizzolo.
On the other hand, Yaroslav Popovych has served most of his career with Johan Bruyneel in different teams throughout his career.
The 32-year-old domestique assisted Johan Bruyneel in several Grand Tour appearances in the past season and has given a one-year contract with the team.
The 2012 season has brought a lot of disappointments for the Luxembourg team and it intends to leave the past behind and focus on what the 2013 has to offer.
