RadioShack extend Chris Horner’s contract while he recovers from blood clot – Cycling News
Chris Horner who won the Tour of California in May had to face the biggest disappointment because of the crash during the stage 9 of Tour de France, 2011 which was the end of his professional season as he now recovers from a blood clot in his lungs.
Cyclist was looking ahead for a busy cycling season but he will rather be going through different treatments which may not be a lengthy process as long and he will only have to spend few weeks in hospital. Even after the treatment Horner will have to be
really careful as the healing process will take a total of 6 months and the cyclist will have to avoid any needless risks as they can jeopardise the situation.
The 39-year-old was really disappointed as wrote on his blog, “In a few hours, I went from thinking I was going to be exceptionally well prepared for the Tour of Colorado, to a two night and a two day stay in the St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon.”
Team RadioShack has extended the cyclist’s contract for another two years which was a big support as he mentioned that his biggest relief in this time of stress is the extension of his contract and he can now let his body take the time it requires to recover
and then can look ahead to the coming tours. Chris appreciated the support by RadioShack as he mentioned, “I can’t thank them enough for all the fantastic support throughout my team with the team, especially in the past month of challenges since leaving the
Tour de France.”
Chris mentioned that he is lucky to have his kids and his future wife around with him at this time as they are helping him to get through a tough phase in his life as he stated that it is not possible to explain the feeling of not racing in the Tour you
had been preparing since months and watching it on a television instead.
Horner is hopeful to recover from the injury and come back to his bike as soon as he can as he is keen to make up for the Tour de France and upcoming events.
