Radiologist's report of ct scan...anyone know what this means exactly?

I have a hernia and my surgeon had me get a ct scan to see right where the hernia is coming from and so on. I just got a copy of the radiologist's report and am curious if anyone knows exactly what the results mean. I know what the inguinal hernia part is but not the other stuff. This is the summary on the report.

***Right inguinal hernia with mesenteric fat in the proximal canal and without involvement of bowel loops***

I see my surgeon again in just a few days but I was wondering if anybody knew what it all means. Just curious. Thanks for any help ya'll can give

  1. It means you have a normal hernia, and not a dangerous one.  Good luck.

  2. We have two ends on the canal, one near the waist, one near your groin. The report says you have the opening on your right side, near the waist. Mesenteric fat is a layer of fat between your skin and your intestines, it's a protective shield. If you ever skinned a chicken, it's the fatty layer between the skin and the meat. That fat layer has entered the inguinal canal. The good news is that your intestines didn't enter the inguinal canal.

Your options at this point is to either have the surgery to close the mild inguinal hernia, or you can do exercise rehabilitation to strengthen the muscles and tendons to close the inguinal canal. Your doctor will determine what's best in your situation.
