Radoslaw Kawecki captures Men’s 200m backstroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on concluding day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday, December 16.
The Polish swimmer faced strong contest from his closest competitor in the race but with his scintillating form, he managed to edge him out over the finishing blockade for the crown.
With his impeccable pace, Kawecki remained only an inch ahead of his closest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 48.48 seconds.
The champion was followed by Ryan Lochte of USA, who stayed only 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for silver medal with an effort of 1 minute and 48.50 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Ryan Murphy of USA, who remained 0.36 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 48.86 seconds.
Murphy was followed by Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who was 2.14 seconds slower and tapped the wall for fourth position by posting an effort of 1 minute and 51.00 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Peter Bernek of Hungary, who was 0.24 seconds slower and reached the finishing end by clocking a time of 1 minute and 51.24 seconds.
Subsequently, Bernek remained 0.27 seconds faster from Ashley Delaney of Australia, who occupied sixth position of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.51 seconds.
Seventh spot of the event was obtained by Travis Mahoney of Australia, who was half a body length behind and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 52.09 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Christian Diener of Germany, who was 0.39 seconds slower and ended his race in eighth place by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 52.48 seconds.
In addition, Kawecki received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts and raked medal after the session.
