Radoslaw Kawecki earns Men’s 100m back-stroke gold: Day four – 2011 European Swimming Championships
Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland impressed the aquatic crowd by earning the title of Men’s 100m back-stroke on the last day of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Sunday, December 11.
Kawecki outshined his competitors by claiming gold medal of the back-stroke discipline in a wonderful manner. He faced intense battle from Aschwin Wildeboer Faber of Spain, who tried to escape his on the finishing end but the Polish swimmer
managed to out-touch his on the finishing wall.
Wildeboer Faber remained most dominant swimmer in the first round, as he ended his first half of the race in a fastest time of 24.11 seconds. He was followed by Pavel Sankovich of Bulgaria, who remained 0.45 seconds behind and ended his initial half with
an effort of 24.56 seconds. Kawecki stayed 0.06 seconds behind Sankovich and completed his initial 50 metres of the race in a third fastest time of 24.62 seconds.
Subsequently, the polish veteran demonstrated his wonderful efforts in the final half, where he picked up his pace and defeated his former swimmers by claiming gold medal of the event.
He completed his final 50 metres of the event in a fastest time of 25.81 seconds to submit 50.43 seconds on the bulletin for gold medal. His gold winning effort was 1.48 seconds slower from the European mark of 48.95 seconds, owned by Stanislav Donets of
Russia in 2010. His time was also 1.49 seconds behind the world record of 48.94 seconds, held by Nicholas Thoman of USA from 2009.
The gold medallist remained 0.18 seconds ahead of his strongest rival, Wildeboer Faber, who reached the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 50.61 seconds. He was trailed by Sankovich, who remained 0.53 seconds behind his former finisher and stepped
on the podium for bronze medal by completing his sprint in a phenomenal time of 51.14 seconds.
Kawecki was delighted with his scintillating effort in the back-stroke discipline while the podium finishers received their accolades after the session. In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all scheduled events in Men’s and Women’s
corner.
