Radoslaw Kawecki wins Men’s 200m backstroke prelims: Day five – European LC Championships
Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland won the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m backstroke on day five of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Friday, May 25.
The 20-year-old Kawecki demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the qualification rounds of the distant backstroke event. He faced tough competition from his following swimmer in throughout the discipline but managed to outperform him over the finishing end
for first position.
He stayed just a touch ahead of his closest competitor and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.79 seconds for first position.
He was trailed by Yannick Lebherz of Germany, who was just 0.06 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 58.85 seconds for second position.
Third fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by Peter Bernek of Hungary, who was 0.22 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 59.07 seconds.
Bernek was chased by Matteo Milli of Italy, who suffered a deficit of 0.23 seconds from his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.30 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed stupendous efforts of Italy’s Federica Pellegrini in the qualifying rounds of Women’s 200m freestyle.
The 23-year-old Pellegrini stayed comfortably ahead of her competitors throughout the discipline and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 59.07 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was chased by Silke Lippok of Germany, who remained full body length behind and hit the finishing wall for second position by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.96 seconds.
Similarly, Lippok was chased by Ophelie Cyriell Etienne of France, who stayed only 0.09 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 00.05 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Sara Isakovic of Slovenia, who stayed just an inch slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 00.12 seconds.
The arena appreciated commendable efforts of all qualifying swimmers in their respective events while these finalists will face each other in the semi-finals of their swimming events.
