Radu Albot prevails over Erik Chvojka in the first round – Istanbul Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 226th in the South African Airway’s ATP Rankings, Radu Albot smashed his Canadian rival, Erik Chvojka, in the first round of the Istanbul Challenger 2012 on the eve of Tuesday. Moldavian qualifier
nudged forward 6-2, 6-2 victory against his un-seeded rival and secured the winner’s spot in nearly one hour and 12 minutes.
The 22-year-old Moldavian challenger dominated his opponent with outstanding scores in both sets and had no trouble at all to dispose him of. After this easy encounter with the lower ranked Canadian, he quickly
created his way to the next round of the hard courts held of Turkey.
The Canadian professional started the match with his strong serve, bringing up the score to 1-0. However, his opponent quickly activated to even out the score sheet by 1-all. Albot snatched his break in the game
and broke Chvojka’s serve in the third game by a 2-1 lead. He confidently continued his voyage, belting high-paced angled shot and bagging away all the games in a row. The Moldavian native progressed without any break in his serve, stamped his 3-2 win. The
Canadian challenger tried his best to upset the top ranked player so he lost the beat and was unable to sustain his serve to the end, gifting away the set with a 2-6 loss.
The World number 218th, Chvojka lagged behind because he was unable to smash a single ace against competitor and even double faulted once. Although, he had a good first serve precision of 71 percent,
he could only capitalize seven of 15 first and three of six second serve points in the initial set. He secured one of the three serve breaks offered to him, whereas his contender could not even secure any. Albot could not score more than 57 first serve percentage,
converting nine of 13 first and seven of 10 second points.
Regardless of his sloppy entry the 25-year-old Canadian struggled hard to generate some pace. Both players were unable to hold their serves in the start but Chvojka surprisingly clinched the lead and marked a
2-1 lead in the third game. In the very next game the score line levelled out to 2-all, after this point the Moldavian realized his declining pace and he marched forward to snatch his destined win. Moving towards the end, he broke his rival’s serve in the
fifth and seventh game and ending the game by a 6-2 win.
The 22-year-old Moldavian manifested a higher first serve accuracy of 67 percent, converting 13 of 22 points. The Canadian professional exhibited a below average first serve of 38 percent and just pocketed away
two of eight points.
In the second round of the Challenger Albot will contest against the top seeded, Malek Jaziri.
